Passengers with Reduced Mobility
Our goal is to help everyone connect. We understand that no two passengers are the same, and we believe that all travellers deserve care and respect.
At Hebridean Air Services, we strive to accommodate all passengers, including those with reduced mobility. Our aim is to provide you with all the information and support you need for a comfortable and seamless journey with us.
Boarding and Exiting
The compact size and design of our BN2-Islander aircraft means that typical aids for passengers with reduced mobility, such as catering lifts or transport wheelchairs, are not available. Assistance is tailored to each passenger's needs, with small steps (as shown in the picture) provided when necessary to reach the door, which is 60 cm above the ground.
This class of aircraft do not require cabin crew, so ground staff and the pilot assist with boarding and disembarking. To ensure the safety of all passengers, it's required that everyone must be able to board and exit the aircraft without staff support. We recommend that passengers with reduced mobility travel with a companion who can assist if needed.
If assistance is required to reach the aircraft, ground staff can provide and help passengers use a manual wheelchair.
The rear-left passenger door of the aircraft is large, measuring 119 cm wide by 109 cm tall, providing easy access to the rearmost row of seats. In this area, the cabin height is 126 cm. Each seat has direct access to a door, and once seated, passengers remain in place until after landing.
Carrying Equipment
The aircraft features a rear baggage compartment with a capacity of 181 kg, but access is through a relatively small door measuring 45.6 cm wide by 66 cm high, positioned at chest height. The compartment itself is 80 cm from floor to ceiling and is slightly narrower than the cabin due to the taper of the fuselage towards the tail.
This compartment is suitable for carrying folding wheelchairs or other equipment that can physically fit through the door. Larger items, such as electric wheelchairs, cannot be accommodated on the aircraft. Manual wheelchairs are available to assist passengers in reaching the aircraft.
